Getting There
This walk was organised and led by me as a CBC walk:
Sunday 25 July - Umbagong District Park - S/E,X. A combined CBC and Parkway church urban ramble. Something north of the lake. Stroll around Umbagong District Park between Macgregor, Holt and Latham on Gininderra Creek to see what is there. Around 7km. Map: Hall. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235. Transport: TBA. South-siders meet at Parkway church, cnr Tuggeranong Parkway and Sulwood Drive Kambah at 1pm.
6 of us met at Parkway at 1pm and drove to the entrance to Umbagong District Park on Florey Drive where we met another 7 northsiders.

Open to members of the public - all welcome. Bring a little arvo tea to share. Please book with me by 2pm the previous Thursday.

Robyn was our local guide. We set off down the concrete and bitumen walkway down towards Ginninderra Creek, turning right when we met the perimeter path. It wound pleasantly enough down beside Ginninderra Creek. A boardwalk at one stage around a little cliff. A couple of creek crossings. We went under Florey Drive and into the area of the Park listed in the ACT Sites of Significance as B4 Ginninderra Creek - MacGregor. We continued on until we came to the footbridge over the creek, just upstream from Osburn Drive.

Crossing here, we returned upstream on the Holt/Latham side, stopping by a stepping-stone crossing to sit on the grass and a nearby seat for afternoon tea. Plenty of users - dog walkers, riders. Continued on upstream and headed down a little concrete path to a tiny cascade. Here Tony Beasley from the CBC was waiting for us on the other side to point out the axe-grinding grooves, listed as ACT Site of Significance B5 Latham axe-grinding groove.

A bit of a storm was threatening behind us, so instead of completing another kilometre or so, I whimped out and we returned to the cars. Thanks, folks, for pointing out to me where they were, or else we'd have ended up doing another lap!
Thanks for your company Bernie C, Elizabeth C, Richard and Nicole C, Jenny D, Robyn D, Helen L, Neralie L, Jenny N, Nerolie P, Peter P and Bill W. A reasonable little inter-urban park.
Distance: 5.8km Climb: 30m. Time: 1.30 - 3.05pm (call it 1hr 30mins), with 10mins of breaks.
Grading: S/E,X; VE(3)
